Last Saturday Andrew made his final profession in his local sub-parish church, Mary Queen of Peace, Masumave (10 kilometres from Goroka town). His profession took place on a beautiful sunny morning in the grounds of the church. The main celebrant was Fr. Matthew Landu, a family relative. The other celebrants were Bishop Henk Te Maarssen (retired Bishop of Simbu Province PNG), Fr. Harry Gahare, Fr. John Ryan, Fr. Valentine Gryk, Vicar General and Fr. Michael Finegan.
The natural setting, participation of Andrew's family and community for his final profession and Mass was meaningful and touching. Fr. Matthew Landu grew up in Masumave and his family built the church at Masumave. He related so well to Andrew's family and community. Other faith communities were present. The Lutheran Community sang a hymn (in local language and Pidgin English) calling Andrew to be a missionary.
The selection of attached photos is an attempt to capture some the moments of this special day of joy and graces for Andrew, his family, community, his Christian Brothers and for many others who have journeyed with him.
Thanks so much for your emails from time to time. Special thanks for your story about Tuna in the Terracian. Tuna continues to make good progress. Recently Don Waipe our Callan Services Co-ordinator involved Tuna in assisting him in making a door to his house. Previously there was no door to his house! With encouragement from the Callan Services' officers Tuna's father has made a bed for Tuna. Previously he was sleeping on dry banana leaves on the ground! From some funds that I manage, Callan Services donated bed linen and pillow for Tuna. He was very pleased to receive them. He calls us 'the Mount Sion people'
