Edmund Rice Education Flexible Learning Centre
For 25 years the Centre Education Programme (CEP), based in Kingston (Logan City - the southern outskirts of Brisbane, Queensland) has provided young people alienated from mainstream education with a place to re-engage with a holistic learning experience. The CEP, at its heart, has the personal ethos of Edmund Rice, the founder of the Christian Brothers.
This is an ethos that is:
- inclusive,
- just,
- relevant to its time,
- centred in the Christian tradition based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Within a social inclusion framework of "walking with", the CEP offers young people a place to re-engage in a reciprocal relationship, relevant curriculum, just pedagogy and ownership of the educational experience. For many who attend, CEP is their sole connection with community, and the only place where they can participate in the acquisition of common global values.
In order to maintain CEP as a valuable shared experience, all who attend agree to participate in accordance with these four principles;
- Respect,
- Participation,
- Safe and Legal,and
- Being Fair Dinkum (Honesty).
These principles represent the overarching values the CEP offers those who choose to participate in the program. Rituals are played out in a variety of group meetings where young people and adults...
- share experiences
- challenge each other in terms of behaviours
- negotiate learning outcomes
- define obligations and responsibilities in relation to the four principles.
On this common ground, the quality and depth of conversation increases young people's experience within democratic structure.

We wish to commemmorate roughly 25 years of existence and a view to our future. The theme is:
So Many Stories, So Many Faces, each respected for its uniqueness.
Every person who has ever been with the Centre over the years has their own story to tell. We'll be telling what we can find.
If you want to add your story (what has happened to you before, during and after the Centre or how the Centre was for you) please feel free to contact Gabrielle or Rachael by phone: 3808 6800 or email: 25yearsatCEP@gmail.com Send in your short or long story, pictures, drawing, cartoon or poem.
If you are aware of people who should receive this invitation, please let us know on 25yearsatCEP@gmail.com or send this on to those people.
An RSVP on 25yearsatCEP@gmail.com would be greatly appreciated as it will help our crew. We understand that not all of you will make it but hope to hear from you one way or another.
If students from the Brisbane & surrounds FLC's & outreaches wish to visit, they would be most welcome, perhaps also during the day on the Thursday. The many displays will be up from Wednesday onward and are worth seeing.
