 Edmund Rice Camps – Brisbane is seeking an experienced Program Support Officer with enthusiasm to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of young people experiencing disadvantage. You will be part of an energetic team in a fun and dynamic office environment that places highest priority on the people we work with, especially the many young adult volunteers that make our programs happen.

Edmund Rice Camps -Brisbane is a charitable organisation that provides a variety of services and programs to support the development of young people in need. Edmund Rice Camps have operated in Queensland since 1991 and are one of several Edmund Rice Camps entities organised by the Christian Brothers ministries throughout the Oceania Province. Edmund Rice Camps - Brisbane runs programs and activities for approximately 260 children, adolescents, also assisted by approximately 180 young adult volunteers.  For information about Edmund Rice Camps and Mentoring Brisbane please visit the website:  www.ercqld.org

 Duties will include administrative tasks to assist with the planning, logistical preparation and coordination of services for Edmund Rice Camps to ensure the high quality of service for programs, activity days, camps and other recreational experiences for young people.  In addition, the Program Support Officer will assist with basic bookkeeping, grant applications and fund raising initiatives.

 The position is part-time (FTE 0.5), working a five (5) day fortnight (or equivalent), for a term of twelve (12) months commencing in November 2011.  The position’s responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide administrative and data entry support to the Camps team, including maintaining databases and ensuring Blue Card information of volunteers is up-to-date.
  • Assist the Training and Formation Officer in following-up with referral agencies, parents and volunteers on the status and receipt of forms for camps and confirming attendance.
  • Prepare office resources for camps and training activities related to camps.
  • Liaise with schools and campsites regarding buses, catering and other logistical preparation for camps.
  • Monitor and keep a basic record of income and expenditure of the program
  • Assist the Programme Coordinator with research and compilation of funding applications.

Selection Criteria

 Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience.
  • State Working with Children Clearance (Blue Card) or be able to obtain one.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications desirable.

Personality

  • Self-driven, reliable and with a positive outlook that is tolerant of others. 
  • A natural forward planner, credible and comfortable with dealings at all levels within the Oceania Province. 
  • An empathetic communicator, who is able to see things from a young person's perspective. 
  • Able to get on with others and be a team-player.

Availability 

  • Be available to maintain regular contact with the Oceania Province.
  • Be able to attend meetings and events as required.
  • Be available to work extended and weekend hours when required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Commitment to social justice and to cross-cultural principles.
  • Have or willing to acquire and understanding of the charism of Edmund Rice and an ability to apply this in the operation of camps.
  • Ability to work well in a team-based setting.
  • Ability to critique and evaluate present practice.
  • Highly developed communication skills and interpersonal skills that include collaboration and teambuilding skills.
  • Records management experience.
  • Book keeping experience.
  • Relational qualities and intelligence within young adult settings.
  • Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, religious diversity.  
  • Communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Highly proficient computer literacy, including database, word processing, web-based, and desktop publishing.
  • Resource management and organisational skills.
  • Flexibility in response to developing and evolving circumstances.
