Edmund Rice Camps Townsville began in 2000 and currently has around 80 active volunteers. There are 7 camp programs.

Edmund Rice Camps Townsville is an agency of the Catholic Diocese of Townsville. We are supported by our major sponsors the Christian Brothers, the St Vincent de Paul Society and the Sisters of Mercy, and by many individuals. Edmund Rice Camps is inspired by the spirit of Edmund Rice, the founder of the Christian Brothers. ERC is established in many centres throughout Australia and the world. OUR MISSION To give children in social need an experience of a caring community, usually through holiday camps. Employees under this camp are employees of the diocese, including its insurance liability which is under the diocese. The board members are appointed by the Catholic Bishop of Townsville.

What Are Edmund Rice Camps?

• Edmund Rice Camps involve adventure-based programs, which can include canoeing, swimming and bushwalking, as well as indoor activities such as crafts, games, songs and concerts. Our aim is to provide a fun and worthwhile camping experience to those children who particularly need an experience of a happy and caring community.

• We work mainly with children aged 7-12 years, who are from backgrounds in which they may have missed out on the normal opportunities for personal and social development.

• All children are paired with a leader, a young adult who becomes a positive role model to the child during the four-day camp, enabling each child to receive the personal attention that they deserve.

• Prior to each camp, leaders are trained in Child Safety and Protection, in accordance with our comprehensive policy for care and safety on camps.

• Those involved as volunteers on camps have a marvellous opportunity for personal growth, and are asked to respond in a Christian spirit of service as exemplified by the life of Edmund Rice.
