Edmund Rice Justice Aotearoa – (New Zealand)
Programme Design/ General Description
Edmund Rice Justice in Aotearoa was born out of the inspiration such as the Edmund Rice Centre in Sydney and Edmund Rice Institute in Fremantle which advocate concerning issues of structural injustice. The group was officially formed in 2007 and works with young adults on social justice awareness and action. The group is aiming towards working strongly with other agencies to produce research and action material on current issues in the NZ and international social justice scene.
The programmes include: Volunteers, HIV/AIDS, Poverty, Fair Trade, Government Policy, Advocacy, Rights of the Child.
Edmund Rice Justice in Aotearoa is registered as a “Tax Charity” as part of the Charities Commission of New Zealand, enabling them to access Tax Concessions and Donee Status.
Aim of Programme
- To build, maintain and support an active social justice network in Aotearoa;
- To develop and implement strategies that encourage and support young adults in particular, to develop a social justice orientation and engage with social issues;
- To facilitate the provision of social justice skills, training and education for young people.
