It is expected that every centre, ministry and group associated with the Edmund Rice Charism will have its own set of pages on this site and that someone will take on the responsibility to keep these pages updated.
This instruction is about the process of submitting these pages to the Website.

From anywhere in the core part of the site (Click on HOME if you are in the Community section) you will see the menu bar shown above. Click on the menu item "Submit Content"
You will be presented with a page showing the different types of article you can use. The table below will help you choose which will best suit your purpose.
| General Article |
This is where you can write your article in the format you choose. |
| News Feature | This is like the "general article" except that it asks for a date which is important to a news item. News is also automatically added to the HOME page as an introduction plus a link. |
| Organisation/Group | This is used to introduce an organisation. specific headings are provided and you enter content under these headings. I prefer to use the "General Article" and choose my own headings. |
| Quote of the Day | I have no idea where these quotes are displayed or how they might be used. |
| Gallery Bank | I tried to use this for the first time in writing this article and it does not seem to be working. |
Producing a General Article
I will now take you through the process of preparing a "General Article". The process of producing the other types will be very similar.
First click the "ERN General Article" button. Then select a category from the list provided. Each article must have one and only one category.
The way the categories are arranged is that the list down the left hand side provides a broad category (i.e. Ministries). The four categories to the right of that will all have to do with the broad category but will allow you to be more specific (i.e. Social Justice is more specific than Ministries). If one of the four specifics categories fit your article check it (click in the circle in front of the category) otherwise check the more general category on the left.
Give your article a title. Try to keep the title short. Long titles will wrap and not look as neat when displayed in small windows.
Text Editor

The body of the article is typed up in the window provided. This does not seem the place to teach you how to use a text editor. You will see from the buttons provided on the tool bar that most are formilure to anyone who has been using Word.
There are a few differences in the second row of tools. One has to do with the cut and paste tools. If you have formatted text prepared in Word, you may find that a simple cut and paste will produce untidy HTML code.
To paste Word text into the edit box:
- copy it from the original document in the normal way
- return to the site and click on the "Word Paste" tool (a clipboard with a W: second row 5th item ).
- When the new window appears hold down the CTRL key and tap V then release. The text will be pasted.
- Click on the "Insert Button" to complete the task.
If you wish to paste text but do not wish to keep the format then use the "Paste Text" (Clipboard with T). This will enter text as if you typed it in (i.e. will use the format currently set).
This is enough editing for this lesson. The next one will show you how to add graphics, produce links and view the HTML code.
To finish you will need to add "Tags". This will be the main means by which search engines, internal and external, will find your article on the web. One of the tags should be the category chosen. Others would be words which you might use in searching for your article.
Click on the Box before "Yes! Please automatically display YouTube videos based on the first 'Tag' above."
If this has a tick you will get a lot of unwanted YouTube video clip links down the right hand side.
You can put your name in the "Submitted by" box.
Then click "Preview Article" to see what it looks like.
When you are satisfied with what you have done click "Submit Article" to save and finish. (If you cannot scrol down to the "Submit Article" button, click back arrow to get back to your edit page.)
Do not worry if you get a "Broken Link" message. This is because you are trying to display the article has not yet been approved by a person authorized to do so.
The challenge for this lesson is for you to add an article which tells the world about some Edmund Rice project with which you are connected. Next lesson will show you how to add photos and links to your article.
