Living the Vision Award Scheme
Edmund Rice Network, South AustraliaEdmund looked into his own heart. His inner spiritual journey was fundamental to all that he achieved and undertook. Looking at the world of his time, he saw people who were very poor, people neglected by others, people who were lonely, afraid and without direction in their lives. He realised that God was leading him to do something to make life better, especially for neglected young people.
The Living the Vision Award Scheme acknowledges and celebrates South Australian members of the Edmund Rice Network who explore authentic ways to respond to the needs in their community, local environment or national and international community in the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice.
The Edmund Rice Network encompasses all groups, ministries, schools and individuals who identify, share in, or are in intentional relationship with the charism of Edmund Rice. The commitment may be life-long or temporary.
The Living the Vision Award Scheme has been developed:
- to celebrate those who provide a model for Living the Vision of the Edmund Rice Charism (Spirit);
- to promote the identity and value of the Network throughout our schools, ministries and groups;
- as a way of raising awareness about the essence and characteristics of the Edmund Rice Network.
There are three awards within the scheme. They are based on the three values of the Oceania Province – PRESENCE, COMPASSION and LIBERATION. The Oceania Province have adopted these values as fundamental qualities for the work of the Province – qualities that Edmund Rice strived for and embraced in all that he accomplished.
Like Edmund, the actions and reflections of the Living the Vision Award Scheme recipients make a real difference to the lives of others. Evident in their action is their appreciation and contemporary expression of the Edmund Rice Charism (Spirit).
