Brisbane, Qld, Australia
Br Steve McLaughlin, Director: Communications, Development and Networking, is currently on sick leave. He is being treated as an outpatient at the Brisbane Mater Private Hospital. He regularly report for blood testing and blood transfusions.
He recently wrote:
I have had my ups and downs during this time and some drugs to stimulate my bone marrow and improve my immune system have caused some side effects but not too serious.
As you can imagine I have been frustrated that this is going to take time and still be no closer to a positive outcome. But I know many are praying to our greater God and anybeing else who may have some influence on my good health.
I have been spending a lot of time with my sister Maria who is a nurse and her husband who is a retired doctor pathologist. Both have been good helping me understand what is happening in my body. Unfortunately the condition causes my haemoglobin to fall sharply from time to time (thus the transfusions) and this causes a depletion of oxygen in my blood. As a result I get very tired quickly and pretty scatty in the head......many will say what is new!!!
The next 2 weeks will be vital ones in terms of my reaction to transfusions and other treatments.
Br Bernie Gartland Bernie has taken on the role of Acting Director until Steve returns. Steve expressed his confidence in Bernie and wished him all the best. Chris Meehl will be helping with budgets and other matters.
We wish Streve a speedy and complete recovery.
