Richard Walsh shares with us his reflections on living the gospels in the East Timor setting. His deep faith and respect for the people with whom he works shines through his writing.
People are hurting in many ways and it seems to me that the common factor is global warming. I wonder again about my consumer life-style and its impact on the atmosphere and the environment.
Part of my unease in the last week is due to having the plans that I made change on a daily basis. I did go up to Railaco Kraic last Sunday (with some sacks of rice) and then was advised on Monday morning not to drive further up to Samalete. The road is passable (our health car does it every day) but I was happy to say that I was too scared to try. Most of the really bad sections have not been repaired and some repairs have been washed away. I returned to Dili on Tuesday to welcome back 2 members of our community only to find that one missed her flight, was not well and was returning home. I suspect that the Spirit was at work taking care of her and pray that she is recovering well.
