Terrace Timor Programmes and Projects
The Terrace Timor Network supports and funds a range of programmes and projects managed by Comundade Edmund Rice in East Timor, under the leadership of Br Bill Tynan.
Projects are designed and managed under three main areas:
- Education
- Health
- Sustainability
TTN Education Programme
The eductation progrsmme aims to provide qualified, reliable teaching staff and usuable resources to encourage regular attendance at school and a higher priority on education
TTN Health Initiatives
Comprehensive health care services are seen as a "given" within our Australian communities however the people in many villages of Timor Leste have almost no opportunity to access even the most basic care.
The health initiatives aim to improve the health outcomes for men, women and children through and immunisation programme, maternity and post-natal care and management of other injuries and diseases. A large focus of the programme moving forward will be on building awareness and education of simple health care principles within the communities CER supports.
TTN Sustainability Initiatives
These projects aim to provide sustainable income generating opportunities for local communities and families. TTN supports the marketing and sale of locally made products in Australia, with all proceeds returning to the makers and their communities.
These products include:
- hand made cards
- authentic, hand-made Tais products (traditional cloth of Timor Leste) and
- organic, premium single bean coffee (the only Cash crop of the district)
