Who We Are

Welcome to the Edmund Rice Foundation (Australia) http://erf.org.au

As part of the vision and mission of the Oceania Province of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, the Foundation promotes and supports international social development projects in the developing world.

The Foundation draws its inspiration from the life and vision of Edmund Rice, the Irish businessman who responded to the needs of his time by dedicating his life and resources to the liberation of the poor through education. A life and work that were characterized by presence, compassion and liberation.

The Foundation’s vision is for a just and peaceful world where the dignity and rights of all are respected and in which all have control over their lives and have access to the resources and opportunity to achieve their potential.

The Edmund Rice Foundation has emerged over the past 20 years as a significant non-government development organization. In Australia, the Foundation acts in partnership with a number of partner groups and a range of schools. These partnerships enable the Foundation to work collaboratively with local communities in developing countries in development projects involving education, health, vocational training and community development to empower local people to address the unacceptable levels of poverty and injustice that they face, particularly for the young. These activities are ideally grounded in the expressed needs of those communities. The Foundation’s specific focus is on countries in Africa and the Asia-Pacific Region.
