Edmund Rice Philippines Ministry
Programme Design/ General Description
The Christian Brothers are working in the small cities of Kabankalan on the island of Negros and Hilongos on the island of Leyte. Their ministries range from working to build the capacity of principals and teachers in Catholic schools to providing special programmes for young people at risk.
The Brothers established the Kabankalan community in 2006. Kabankalan City is the centre of a small rural diocese established by the Columbans who worked there and established many schools. Part of the work of the ministry is assisting out-of-school children and young people to access an education.
The Brothers at Hilongos have begun teaching in St Teresa’s High School. This initial experience will help them form a relationship with the local community and, over time, identify how best to minister with them.
