Programme Design/ General Description

Communidade Edmund Rice (CER) runs a wide range of projects covering health, education, infrastructure and community development encompassing five villages in the mountainous area southeast of Dili in Timor Leste. The CER programme currently consists of 2 brothers, Br Bill Tynan as CER Programme leader and Br Richard Walsh, who is responsible for coordinating the program of work for both the early childhood learning project and the solar lighting project within this region.

Aim of Programme

The CER programme aims to reduce poverty and vulnerability in the five villages. The projects and its aims include:

  • Health Project – Improving the standard of healthcare in the Ermera/ Railaco district;
  • Solar Lights Project – Providing basic lighting infrastructure;
  • Education Project- Providing formal education for children;
  • Early Childhood Learning Centre Project – Delivering a preschool curriculum;
  • Water Project – Coordinating consistent access to and storage provision for clean water within 4 CER supported villages;
  • Income Generation – Card Making Project – Providing means for women to contribute to family income;
  • Community Development- Sewing Groups Project – Providing local women the chance to enhance their skills and develop other business opportunities in the future;
  • Youth Support Project – Actively engaging Timorese youth, specifically young males with the aim of improving individual self worth through education, engagement and the provision of suitable role models.

Target Group

Women, children and families in the five villages of the district of Railco Kraik.
