How to Use the Community & Our Social Networking Tools…

_______________________________________________________________________

SITE OVERVIEW

The Edmund Rice Oceania Web Portal aims to educate, inform, inspire and unify the extended community.

The site essentially has 2 key components to it:

1.    Information - Presentation and Self-publication of Content

2.    Social Networking - Forums, Blogs, Chat Rooms, Groups, Personal Profiles

Each of these 2 parts require different member logins.

That's why when you sign up to become a member of the social network, it won't necessarily mean that you are automatically able to upload content into the core site. Just as when you Sign Up to become a publisher on the core site, the same sign on won't give you access to the social network.  This is to protect the interests of our community and is used as a verification technique as well.

Automatic Video Feed:

There is a place within the form to check or uncheck whether you would like the automated video feed represented on your page.

The first tag/keyword dictates which videos are presented. If you want to see which videos will be shown before you submit the article, go to Youtube.com and search using your primary keyword. The first 6 videos shown will be the ones which appear at the bottom of your article. To get the best video results, try several different keyword searches on Youtube until you are getting the most relevant results.

Feature Video:

You can also select a relevant video to be featured within a page by going to the box:

Simply upload the last part of the video code from the top URL address -

e.g. (coming soon)

5d. Create Web-Links

You can add up to 5 hyperlinks to the bottom of your featured page.

5e. Add TAGS!!

Tags are a REALLY important feature of these content page submission forms.

It’s as simple as listing keywords that your content piece relates to and putting comma’s between each one.

Why tag? …

Well, the internet is obviously massive and often finding what you’re looking for can be like searching for a needle in a haystack … So, tagging your content will help others find it. It will also help Search Engine bots find it, which places certain phrases and content in Search Engine priority lists when people search under those keywords or phrases.

That’s right, we did say ‘phrases’ … if you want to take it one step further than tagging, you can access the ‘metatagging’ options provided in the lower part of the form framework called “Best Quotes”

This is where you can put your summaries, sentences etc which are likely people are looking for.

e.g. A piece about the life of Edmund Rice would place a metatag of:
‘Everything about Blessed Edmund Rice’, ‘Edmund Rice – story’ etc.

How to Position Content throughout the Site:

aka – “How do I get my content linked from the Home Page?”

Non-Administrator Access

All users who sign up can achieve the publication of pages are on the site until you or the administrator remove them. These are all searchable by anyone.

However, unless it is a News item, it is up to the Administrator to position or feature your content page with a link from any of the core site pages. You may write an email via the Contact Us Form requesting that the content be featured on a particular page however.

News items automatically go to the homepage Latest News Listings.

Administrator Access

An administrator can place content pages created by anyone in whatever page they desire.

They do this by hovering over the ‘Administration’ tab in the Publisher navigation bar and selecting ‘Site Options’ from the drop down menu.

This offers them yet another drop down menu from which they may select one of the core pages.

Positioning Content:

It’s all about taking the numeric reference for the content page that you want and placing it in the appropriate box.

For example, at Christmastime, a story of Christmas is appropriate to place on the left side of the homepage – you simply place ‘98’ in that row.

If you can’t remember the number of your content page/ article, just search on the category or headline in the Search bar on the right and the numbers will appear.

Automatic Fresh Content:

If you’d prefer to have the system automatically changing the content on a daily or weekly rotation without you having to look at it, simply place words such as ‘daily’ or ‘weekly’ with a colon next to it and list the content pages/ articles with comma’s next to them.
