Who We Are
The Edmund Rice Foundation has for over 20 years been working with the Congregation of Christian Brothers to assist in its mission of reaching out to the poor and marginalised of this world in presence, compassion and liberation.
Christian Brothers like many others are concerned that in the developing world there are unacceptable levels of poverty and injustice, particularly for the young.
The Brothers and their supporters work closely with local communities in development projects involving education, health and community development that are grounded in the expressed needs of those communities.
The Edmund Rice Foundation with its many supporters in Australia have enabled these projects to not only be successful, but act as models for others to replicate.
The Foundation was launched in recognition of the founder of the Christian Brothers, Edmund Rice and aims to provide a long term future for the ministries and good works conducted under the direction of the Christian Brothers and its lay partners.
With the contribution of many generous and energetic supporters, the Foundation has grown. It has enabled community projects in Kenya, Tanzania, PNG, East Timor and the Philippines that have enhanced education and health services for disadvantaged communities.
Renamed the Edmund Rice Foundation and, under the auspices of the Oceania Province, it embraces Australia, New Zealand and beyond. We welcome new supporters throughout Australia to help us increase our level of sustainable assistance as we work alongside and partner communities in need.
The Foundation is governed by its Trustees and managed by a Board. In time, its membership will reflect the national nature of the Foundation. Donations to the Overseas Aid Fund for projects in Government gazetted developing countries are tax deductible. Reaching Out will keep you informed of progress.
The Edmund Rice Foundation is committed to developing partnerships within Australia to raise awareness of needs in the developing world. Secondly, it facilitates people's responses in support of such needs - in education, health and community development.
